The Joliet JackHammers in the spring had a billboard that seemed to poke fun at their own financial challenges: players in various forms of undress urged people to buy tickets because the team needed uniforms. The JackHammers never paid for the billboard, according to a complaint filed in Will County Circuit Court seeking $4,500 from the team.

The Will County tornado varied in strength from an F1 to a level between F4 and F5, with winds of more than 260 mph. 1990 tornado 20th anniversary: I have to admit that I knew nothing about tornadoes before the Plainfield tornado ravaged our town. I ignored what I now recognize are signs. At the time, we had four sons: Austin, 6 weeks old (born a month premature); Chase 2; Clayton, 4; and Nicholas, 5½. The children were all down for their afternoon naps that Aug. 28 afternoon.
